OFFICIAL CALL FOR THE
1ST CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION
4x4 KIDS
With the aim of promoting the development of dance as a scenic discipline through young artists, the TIJUANA CULTURAL CENTER in co-production with LUX BOREAL launch this call to participate with a dance proposal for a specific site of space four by four feet in two categories:
A) KIDS Category (8-12 years old)
B) Category TEEN (13-17)
The jury will be made up of artists with a proven track record in dance and other scenic disciplines. This jury will select the members of the Grand Final awarding the following prizes:
1) Best Choreography 4x4 KIDS - Recognition and $10,000.00 pesos mn
2) Best Performer 4x4 KIDS - Recognition and $5,000.00 pesos mn
3) Audience Award 4x4 KIDS - Recognition and $5,000.00 pesos mn
4) Best Choreography 4x4 TEEN - Recognition and $10,000.00 pesos mn
5) Best Performer 4x4 TEEN - Recognition and $5,000.00 pesos mn
6) Audience Award 4x4 TEEN - Recognition and $5,000.00 pesos mn
7) Honorable Mention for the greatest virtual impact
8) Honorable Mention for the best original idea
9) Honorable Mention for the best costume design and production .
BASES
I. This call is aimed at young talented dancers and performers from Mexico and abroad between the ages of 8 and 17 in two categories: a) Kids and b) Teens
II. In order to participate, the applicants must be in their range of years completed at the close of the call.
III. The stage proposal may be created and performed by the dancers, or created and directed by a different person regardless of their age range.
IV. The challenge implied by the stage limit of 1.22 x 1.22 meters will be taken into account.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The proposal must be made on the stage from start to finish. It is not allowed to get off the stage during the choreography.
V. The work can be unpublished or previously released adapted to this format.
SAW. The minimum duration of the work for the contest is minimum 2 min maximum 3 min.
VII. It must involve a minimum of 2 performers (dancers) on stage. And a maximum that will depend on the choreographer.
NOTE: All performers (dancers) in a choreography must belong to the same category.
VII. All participating proposals must appoint a representative of legal age who will be in charge of enforcing the rules, guidelines and communication throughout the contest process.
IX. A representative can have more than one proposal in charge, with a maximum of 3 per category.
X. The Contest has a round of eliminations to be held in the Federico Campbell Hall of the Tijuana Cultural Center
XI. The organization will provide uninterrupted general ambient lighting for the scenic area of the 4x4 platform.
XII. It is not allowed to use platforms other than the one of the contest.
XIII. All selected participants assume that their performance on the 4x4 scenic space in their qualifying rounds, as well as their permanence in the areas where the contest is held, including the Grand Final at the Tijuana Cultural Center, are the responsibility of their representatives.
XIV. The choreography must be finished at the time of the registration process.
XV. In case of being selected for the Grand Final, the choreographies cannot be changed. They must present themselves exactly the same as in the qualifiers.
XVI. By accepting their pre-selection in the 4x4 KIDS Choreography Contest, the participants and their representatives accept the rules of this announcement.
NOTE: The organizing event does not cover transportation, logistics, lodging or food expenses for the participants.
XVII. The proposals to compete must be created considering the discipline of contemporary dance.
MECHANISM:
Reception of Proposals:
From the launch of this call and until Monday, November 29, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. (Pacific time).
Participation Costs:
There is a single registration fee of $650 Mexican pesos for each interpreter.
Validation of selected projects:
Registered proposals will receive a confirmation number once their registration process has been completed.
Playoffs:
The order and schedule of the qualifiers will be announced on November 29 . Dates:
Kids Category Elimination: Thursday, December 9 and Friday, December 10 from 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Teen Category Elimination: Thursday, December 9 and Friday, December 10 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Grand Final 4x4 KIDS:
The Grand Final of the 4x4 KIDS Choreography Contest 2021 will be held in the El Cubo Lobby of the Tijuana Cultural Center on Saturday , December 11, 2021.
Grand finale KIDS Category : Saturday December 11, 2:00 pm
Grand Final Category TEENS : Saturday December 11, 5:00 pm
REGISTRATION PROCESS:

and attach the corresponding files. (The URL or video link of the finished choreography must be included. Minimum 2 minutes, 2. maximum 3. In version adapted to the platform of 1.22 x1.22 meters).
b). Registration can be made from the launch of this call and until the deadline of Monday, November 29, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. (Pacific time).
c). Once their registration is complete, the applicant will receive the corresponding payment tracking to obtain their participation folio.
d). All registrations will be valued by the organizing committee in order to comply with the guidelines of the call.
The proposals and their order of participation will be announced on Monday , December 2, 2021 through a press release and via email; as well as on the Lux Boreal website: www.luxboreal.org
All participants will receive recognition for their participation.
