XIV Concurso de Coreografía
4x4 TJ NIGHT 2026
With the mission of stimulating the development of dance, artistic creation and its connection with the public in relation through a contemporary vision of art, performing artists are invited to submit proposals for the XIV 4x4 TJ NIGHT Choreography Competition 2026.
The challenge consists of presenting a dance proposal for a specific site with limited space.
The jury will be composed of artists with proven professional trajectories in dance and other artistic disciplines such as theater, literature, visual arts, and related fields. In accordance with the guidelines established in this call for entries, this jury will select the participants in the Grand Final and award the following prizes:
a) Best Choreography – 4x4 TJ NIGHT 2026
Single and indivisible prize: $35,000.00 MXN
b) Honorable Mention for Choreography
$10,000.00 MXN
c) Best Performer
$10,000.00 MXN
During the Grand Final, an audience vote will take place to award the following distinction:
d) Audience Award – TJ NIGHT 2026
$10,000.00 MXN
Eligibility and Participation Guidelines
1. This call for entries is open to choreographic creators, dancers, and performing artists from Mexico and abroad.
2. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application and must provide official identification as proof of legal age.
3. Proposals may include contemporary dance and multidisciplinary performing works designed for a 4 x 4 foot platform (1.22 x 1.22 meters) with a height of 1 foot (30 cm), considering an arena-style audience layout (360 degrees).
4. Special consideration will be given to how each proposal addresses the challenge posed by the limited stage dimensions (1.22 x 1.22 meters).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The proposal must be performed entirely on the platform from beginning to end.
5. The minimum duration of the work is 6 minutes, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
Timing will begin when the first performer steps onto the platform and will end when the last performer steps off.
6. Performing (choreographic display as entering or leaving) outside the platform is not permitted.
7. Works may be original or previously premiered, provided they are adapted to the 4x4 format.
8. Each proposal must include a minimum of two performers on stage. There is no maximum limit on the number of performers.
9. The 4x4 TJ NIGHT Choreography Competition 2026 is part of the Extramuros Program of the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT). For this reason, the Semifinals will take place in up to three nightclubs and/or alternative venues in the city of Tijuana, which will be announced at the time of preselection.
10. The work must be designed for presentation in public venues and nightlife spaces in Tijuana. Creators must consider that general ambient lighting will be used for all participants.
11. If a participant chooses to use a platform other than the one provided by the competition, it must meet the official dimensions, and the participant will be fully responsible for its transportation, installation, and removal.
12. Any proposal that puts the safety or physical integrity of the performers at risk, or compromises the structural safety of the platform, will be reviewed by the committee to determine its viability.
13. All selected participants acknowledge that their performance on the 4x4 stage during elimination rounds, as well as their presence in nightclubs and/or alternative venues—including the Grand Final at the Centro Cultural Tijuana—is undertaken at their own risk and responsibility.
14. The jury members for the Grand Final reserve the right to declare void any of the prizes listed in sections (b) or (c) void.
15. Choreographies that have previously won prizes corresponding to sections (a), (b), or (d) in past editions of the 4x4 TJ NIGHT Choreography Competition will not be accepted.
16. If selected for the Grand Final, choreographies may not undergo any changes and must be presented in the same version performed during the semifinals.
17. By accepting their preselection in the 4x4 TJ NIGHT Choreography Competition 2026, participants fully agree to comply with the rules set forth in this call for entries.
18. The organizing body does not cover expenses related to transportation, logistics, accommodation, or meals for participants.

MECHANISM
Submission of Proposals
Proposals will be received from the launch of this call until Monday, February 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time).
Announcement of Selected Proposals
The proposals selected to participate in the competition will be announced on Saturday, February 28, 2026, along with the results of the venue draw for the semifinals.
Notifications will be made via press release and email.
Semifinals
Selected participants will perform, according to the venue draw, between April 15 and April 17, 2026, in nightclubs and/or alternative venues in the city of Tijuana.
At the conclusion of the semifinal stage, the proposals selected to advance to the GRAND FINAL will be announced.
During the week of the competition, all 4x4 TJ NIGHT participants who request it may attend training sessions with the dance company Lux Boreal at their headquarters.
GRAND FINAL – 4x4 TJ NIGHT 2026
The Grand Final of the XIV 4x4 TJ NIGHT Choreography Competition will take place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the Lobby of Interntational Gallery El Cubo at the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT).
This event will be held in the context of the prelude to the XXVII Tijuana International Dance Festival / Cuerpos en Tránsito, where each finalist work will be presented and the winners will be announced.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
I. Applicants must register their proposal online using the link available at:
APPLICATION FORM and upload the corresponding required files.
II. The application must include a URL or link to a video of the complete work, fully finished, with a minimum duration of 6 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes, presented in a version adapted to the 1.22 x 1.22 meter platform.
Works in progress will NOT be accepted.
III. Registration will be open from the launch of this call until Monday, February 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time).
IV. Once the registration process is completed, the applicant will receive a confirmation of submission.
V. A selection committee will be formed to evaluate the proposals and determine those selected to participate in the Semifinal stage.
VI. The selected proposals will be announced on Thursday, February 28, 2026, via press release and email, and published on the official websites of:
