OFFICIAL CALL FOR THE
3RD 4x4 KIDS CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2024
Can you imagine dancing with your friends or group, in a choreography contest on a stage that measures no more than 1.22 x 1.22 meters? How many people could you create such a choreography with? What styles are possible there? The 4x4 KIDS Contest is the platform for you to show your imagination, take your most rehearsed steps and show off the crew, group or duet of your heart.
With the aim of promoting the enjoyment of dance and encouraging new generations to express themselves through it in a free and creative way, the Tijuana dance company LUX BOREAL in co-production with the CENTRO CULTURAL TIJUANA, launch the following call to participate in the 4x4 KIDS Choreography Contest 2024 with choreography that can be danced on a 1.22 x 1.22 meter (4 x 4 foot) stage in the following categories:
YOUTH Category (9-13 years)
JUNIOR Category (14-17 years)
BASES
1. This call is aimed at children and adolescents with a taste for choreography and dance, of Mexican or foreign nationality between 10 and 17 years old, to participate in two different categories:
A) Youth and B) Junior.
2. To participate, applicants must have the age range corresponding to their category at the closing of the call (October 7).
3. The scenic proposal may be created and performed by the dancers, or created and directed by a different person regardless of their age range.
4. The challenge implied by the stage limit of 1.22 x 1.22 meters wide by 31 cm high will be taken into account. (four by four feet, which gives the contest its name)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The proposal must be made on the platform from start to finish. It is not allowed to get off the stage during the choreography.
5. The work can be unpublished or previously released, adapted to this format, with a minimum duration of 2 minutes and a maximum of 3 minutes.
6. It must involve a minimum of 2 performers (dancers) on stage. There is no maximum number of dancers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All performers (dancers) of a choreography must belong to the same category.
7. It is not allowed to use platforms other than that of the contest.
8. Every participating proposal must name a representative of legal age, who will be in charge of enforcing the rules, guidelines and communication throughout the contest process.
10. The Contest has a qualifying round to be held in the lobby of El Cubo of the Tijuana Cultural Center
11. The organization will provide uninterrupted general ambient lighting for the scenic area of the 4x4 platform.
12. All selected participants assume that their performance on the stage space, as well as their permanence in the areas where the contest is held at the Tijuana Cultural Center, are under the responsibility of their representatives.
13. The choreography must be finished at the time of your registration process.
14. If selected for the Grand Final, the choreographies cannot be changed. They must appear exactly the same as in the qualifying rounds.
15. By accepting their preselection in the 4x4 KIDS Choreography Competition, participants and their representatives accept the rules of this call.
NOTE: The organizing event does not cover transportation, logistics, lodging or food costs for participants.
16. The choreographies to compete may include various disciplines and dance techniques taking into account a contemporary creative discourse, such as: ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, hip-hop, flamenco, oriental dances, folklore, urban dances, among others. styles and techniques.

MECHANISM:
Reception of Proposals:
Starting from the launch of this call and until Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific time).
Participation Costs:
There is a one-time registration cost of 700 Mexican pesos for each dancer.
Validation of selected projects:
Registered proposals will receive a confirmation number once their registration process has been completed.
Selected Choreographies:
The order of participation in the qualifiers will be announced on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Semifinals:
The semi-final round will take place in the lobby of El Cubo of the Tijuana Cultural Center
Date: Friday, October 25
Elimination for the two categories
Event duration: 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Announcement of finalists from 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm
(Call time for dancers: 2:30 pm)
The Grand Final:
The Grand Final of the 4x4 KIDS Choreography Contest will take place in the lobby of El Cubo of the Tijuana Cultural Center.
Date: Saturday, October 26
Elimination for the two categories
Event duration: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Deliberation and delivery of permits from 6:00 to 7:30 pm
(Call time for dancers: 2:00 pm)
Awards:
The jury, made up of artists with recognized experience in dance and other performing disciplines, will select the members of the Grand Final, awarding the following prizes, its decision will be final:
a) Best Choreography 4x4 KIDS YOUTH
Recognition and $10,000.00 pesos mx
A package of 2 master classes for the academy or group from the Lux Boreal professionalization program*.
b) Best Performer 4x4 KIDS YOUTH
Medal and Recognition
1 DDS gift card for 1,500 mx or equivalent
c) Best Choreography 4x4 KIDS JUNIOR
Recognition and $10,000.00 pesos mx
A package of 2 master classes for the academy or group from the Lux Boreal professionalization program*.
d) Best Performer 4x4 KIDS JUNIOR
Medal and Recognition
1 scholarship for the Boreal Dance Meeting (July 2025).
e) Grand Prize of the Public 4x4 KIDS 2024
(Presea) single prize among all categories of the contest: 1 master class for the academy or group from the Lux Boreal professionalization program*.
f) Honorable Mention: Best Original Idea

REGISTRATION PROCESS:
• The open access link to the video of the finished choreography (with a duration of minimum 2 minutes and maximum 3, in a version adapted to a 1.22 x1.22 meter platform) must be included on YouTube or Vimeo.
• Registration can be carried out from the launch of this call and until the deadline of Monday, October 7, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific time).
• All records will be evaluated by the organizing bodies with the purpose of ensuring that they comply with the guidelines of the call.
• The proposals selected to advance to the semifinals and the order of their participation will be announced on October 14, 2024, through the Lux Boreal social networks, the Lux Boreal website (www.luxboreal.org), as well as via email to the address of the representative of legal age.
*All competing dancers and choreographers will receive recognition for their participation.
